Open House / 70 Pier Rd / Old Bank

"This Victorian office building was originally constructed as a branch of London and Provincial Bank but was taken over by merchants. The building is locally listed as it "represents a vibrant period in the commercial development of Erith."

The building will be open to the public as part of this year’s Open House London festival on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. Visitors will be able to explore the ground floor, learn about its history and the renovation project. For more information about Open House see https://openhouselondon.open-city.org.uk/listings/8290.

Funded by the Council and the Mayor via their partnership project, the ‘Greater Erith Programme’, architects Haworth Tompkins have been appointed by London Borough of Bexley to develop designs for 70 Pier Road, Erith, known to some as the old Bank Chambers.

The firm have worked on many projects which involve revitalising heritage buildings such as the London Library and Battersea Arts Centre. 70 Pier Road played an important part in Erith’s industrial history and will be preserved and renovated.

Erith Think Tank

Our next meeting will be on 15th August at 7.30pm, at the Exchange.

As we have now articulated our ambitions for the how the Think Tank will function in the manifesto, our next aim is to build awareness and encourage more community members to get involved in our meetings.

The Think Tank has asked for a table at the Pier Festival on 21 September, as there was such a great turn out last year this is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the wider community and raise our profile. For this we'll need to decide what we want to have at the Pier Festival and what kind of activities we want to hold to attract people. At the next meeting two of our members, Kate and Paul, will be presenting ideas on activities we could do to engage different age groups and hopefully we can come to a decision on how we want to approach it.

Beyond this we'll also be discussing the long term goals for the Think Tank - how do we want to go about representing the views of the community and what kind of relationship do we want to build with the council and stakeholders in the area. On the 10th October we have invited the council to present to the Think Tank where hopefully we can start to build a productive relationship between us.

We hope to see you there! Please feel free to share this with anyone who may wish to attend.
